It's been under 24 hours since Pakistan's surreal 10 wicket victory over India, which inevitably broke our World Cup jinx - something that felt like it had existed since the very beginning of time.

Hearts are full. There is a renewed sense of belief. It is unbelievable to think how much can change within a span of 30 odd overs.

It's easy to forget Pakistan's preparation for this tournament was less than ideal. Their coaches Misbah and Waqar had a rather unglamorous exit. The incumbent chairman, Ramiz Raja roared in with a series of bold statements which most supporters felt did little more than add pressure onto an already crumbly unit.

I fully believe Babar Azam has the potential to hold that ODI World Cup trophy high and aloft under the night sky, in front of 100,000 buzzing Indians populating the grand Motera Stadium. I think about it a little too often for my own good, knowing I am setting myself up for disappointment and heartbreak, but I cannot help it. We all kindle that glimmer of hope deep down, even if we pretend we don’t: it’s the tragedy of being a sports fan, and the comedy of being a Pakistan fan.
