The best of a crappy situation for the PCB.

PCBs choices were to convince BCCI and ACC to go for a hybrid model where PCB scrape a couple of (probably useless) matches, or allow the BCCI to bully them into isolation.

We ended up settling for the option which would not destroy Pakistani cricket.

Meanwhile all the chest beating keyboard warriors claiming that we should have stood our ground, boycotted the Asia Cup, boycotted the WC etc. etc. need to grow up and accept the facts. BCCI hold all the power here and despite the rose-tinted glasses we see the Pakistani cricket team with, the fact is that boycotting would only hurt Pakistan and no one else.

I don't think PCB is in that of a situation as last time we played in India. With the success of PSL the PCB is not in that much of need of ICC's funds. Without that there was no way that Pakistan would have managed to keep rights to this cup. Now let's hope both BCCI and PCB don't overplay their hands.

we have a golden generation which has been used to being in finals in pressure situations and in last over matches we have excellent hitters in m Haris and Ifti and Shaheen and Fakhar and no 1 batter in odi and excellent spin player in Salman and rizwan and the best fast bowling attack in Shaheen Haris, Naseem ,waseem Jr , ihsanullah , dahani ,Husnain and one of the best spin attack in Usama in great form in the NZ Odis and 5th highest wicket taker and Shadab khan and nawaz as a backup and Salman and Ifti can bowl spin and

you don't even need a pace all rounder in Asian conditions , it's luxury not must , And dropping Shan is massive plus, Surprised happily they kept Harris is in squad and not Sarfraz for so called spin ability,

Love seeing Haris kept in the squad over Sarfraz and it's great to see Shan get dropped. He's not that good and Abdullah Shafique is a more flexible option being able to open or play in the middle order. Shan is strictly a opener.

Bit weird to see Faheem get included in the squad. I am happy to see he is in their plans though and he definitely needs to be included when they tour Australia but he may not be useful in Asian conditions as a pace all-rounder. I think for the Afghan series & Asia Cup, Imad would make more sense than Faheem but neither may make the WC squad as it will likely need to be cut down to 15 or 16 players at most.

Interesting to see the Saud call-up; it was baffling he was dropped after the England series in the first place but I am not quite sure he can play quick enough to warrant being in ODI's anymore but its hard to say for sure since they never gave him a proper chance anyways. Might just be a bit too late for him to make the WC squad at this point.

faheem Ashraf is awful against spin and taking him to Sri Lanka is a death sentence for him. His overall ODI stats aren't great either. 31 ODIs, 11.47 Batting Average, 46.08 Bowling Average. Honesty, his stats suck in all formats. Only his T20 bowling is passable. I have never understood the appeal with him. I'd much rather have Imad Wasim who has both experience and the ability to keep runrates in control.

I'm not sold on Abdullah Shafique as a back-up opener. Played 3 ODIs where he averages 9 (and that too was vs. Netherlands) and his List A batting average is slightly better at 14. Whilst Shan Masood hasn't impressed in ODIs either, at least he has a strong List A record that shows he can perform if needed.

Mickey Arthur likes him but was disappointed with his batting towards the end. He identified 7 players a few years back that he thought was the future pf Pak cricket.

In the end he was disillusioned with Faheems batting but he does see his potential.

Not every pitch will be spinning conditions. ODIs in India have a bit of variety. It's useful to to try and cover all bases. There may be times when the team combination requires a pace all rounder, we only have him and Waseem as ( fake) all rounders.

Imad is competing with Shadab, Nawaz, Usama and Agha ( perhaps Chacha too), not with Faheem.
